Inclusion Policy

Every child is welcome, valued and supported at Macoc

1. Our Commitment to Inclusion

Macoc Educational Services Ltd is committed to providing an inclusive environment where every child — regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, or socio-economic background — can participate fully, learn effectively, and feel genuinely welcomed.

We are committed to meeting our obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and to making reasonable adjustments to ensure that children with disabilities or additional learning needs can access our programmes on equal terms.

2. Equal Opportunities

  • We will not discriminate against any child or family on the basis of any protected characteristic.
  • All programmes are open to children of all abilities. We do not operate ability-based entry criteria.
  • Scholarship and funded places (including HAF spaces) are offered to ensure cost is not a barrier to participation.
  • We actively work to reflect the diversity of our local communities in our staffing and curriculum.

3. Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)

  • We welcome children with SEN and disabilities and commit to making reasonable adjustments to our sessions, materials, and physical environment.
  • Parents and guardians are encouraged to disclose relevant SEN information at registration so we can plan appropriate support.
  • Where a child has an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan, we will review its relevant sections and discuss the child’s needs with the parent before their first session.
  • We cannot guarantee one-to-one support unless agreed in writing in advance. Where intensive support is required, we will discuss options openly with the family.

4. Behaviour and Positive Relationships

We use a positive behaviour approach. Staff praise and reward positive participation. We do not use punitive or exclusionary approaches as a first response.

Where a child’s behaviour poses a risk to others, we will:

  1. Speak calmly with the child and attempt to understand the cause.
  2. Contact the parent or guardian to discuss support strategies.
  3. Agree a behaviour support plan where appropriate.
  4. As a last resort only, and following a recorded conversation with the parent, exclude a child for the remainder of that session or programme.

Persistent bullying, harassment, or discriminatory language will result in immediate removal from the session without refund.

5. Anti-Bullying

Bullying of any kind — including verbal, physical, or online bullying — is not tolerated. All children are briefed on our anti-bullying expectations at the start of each programme. Any reported or observed bullying is investigated and acted on promptly.

6. Language & Communication

Where English is not a child’s first language, we will make reasonable adjustments to support understanding. Our staff reflect the multilingual nature of our community where possible. We welcome requests for translated materials and will do our best to accommodate them.

7. Complaints

If you feel that your child has been treated unfairly or that we have failed to meet our inclusion obligations, please raise this with us directly. We take all concerns seriously and will respond within five working days.

This policy is reviewed annually. A printed copy is available upon request.
